If there is more than click here in the pot and I'm in early position, I don't c-bet unless I have a hand. This rule sounds predictable but it rarely causes a problem. If I played against the same group of people on a regular basis, I would mix it up occasionally. But for the average poker player, this is just fine.
At the start of the tournament, when blinds are low and chip stacks are fresh, people tend to be very tight. This means that if someone make a small raise, it's not worth re-raising unless you have a premium hand, the blinds are so low you're not getting a good enough return for the risk.
So before you even think about learning poker tournament strategy, you have to learn the basics. Get acquainted with the hands - which beats what and which ones you would really want to be holding. Learn about the blinds, or bets, and how you can use them to your advantage. Familiarize yourself with the difference between cash games and tournaments and the techniques that are best used in each of them. Most of all, practice your poker face. When you're ready, it's time to move forward and start planning your poker tournament strategy.
A "Squeezing" bet is used to limit your opponents pot odds in a short-on the level* game. You use this bet when you have a strong hand and you've put your opponent on some kind of write. The odds are they will not hit their draw so you place a bet and form them pay to chase after their draw. This way you'll be good to accrual the size of the pot or they will fold to you as they do not long to risk chasing the draw.
Has this person always had a big stack (indicating a good player)? Are they short (indicating a bad player)? Are they tall because of a recent lucky win or have they built it over time? Are they short because of a recent bad beat or have they been losing constantly?
poker betting strategy On the flip side, you can use the continuation bet to build the pot when you actually have a real hand. One of the basic premises of poker is to get money in the pot when you have a strong hand. What better way to do it than to start betting right off the bat?
The best and easiest way to increase your wins is to win more pots. And the biggest factor you have to control this outcome is your betting; how much you bet and when you bet.
In any poker tournament whether it is a live tournament or an online tournament some factors are the same. The blinds will increase at set increments. Usually online you will see more hands then in a live game therefore it is not uncommon for the blinds structure to be shorter. For example live poker tournaments will range from 15 minutes to 60 minutes blinds. When the blinds increase slowly the structure will be more geared towards skill. The shorter the blinds the more luck will be needed or you will need to be more aggressive sooner to keep from being blinded out.
