Minetest is the open source, free and free of charge voxel game engine, inspired originally by Minecraft it's gradually becoming more and better, with a variety of games available for it. A new version is in the works with Minetest 5.4.0 currently having a first Release Candidate which is a time when they'll need as many users as possible to try it out and make sure that it is working as intended.
Back when Minetest 5.0 released in 2019 it included an in-game UI to download games and mods. Although it worked it was improved it with every release. However the dependency system was a problem. A mod would require another, and so on. It used to be a pain to find the entire collection, but it is now much easier. The 5.4 release includes a new UI flow to download mods and games along with dependency resolution, the ability to update all, and download queues.
Simple and efficient, it works!
It makes it much simpler and quicker. This allows you to have your Minetest experience exactly how you would like it. Do you want to pack every possible modification into the base Minetest game. Do it. Want to try out a whole conversion game? There's a way to do that.
This might actually get me to play more Minetest!
A few more things that are new includes:
- Let mouse bindings be used and improve input binding
