The World of Warcraft's worlds are designed to look like different worlds, however they are not identical. You pick one and follow the rules of that world. If you wish to live in a different world, you'll need to put in a lot of work to get there. Wow And Private Wow Servers A quick glance at the WoW Realm Forums will reveal that each server can be better described as its own high school.
No matter what nicknames they have, realms have them. They have celebrities that are famous for their exploits (Death and Taxes on Korgath and Sebudai with Doomhammer) or are infamous for their mistakes (Overrated on Black Dragonflight and Avatar on several servers, but originally Warsong). They have private dramas as well as screrenshots which will only be amusing to those who live in that realm.
Servers are well-known for their distinct qualities: Argent Dawn is known for its roleplaying (and entertaining Goldshire Cyber stories), Mal'Ganis is known for world PvP and Black Dragonflight, Korgath and Korgath have the best guilds for raiding. Some servers have rivalries. Arthas and Mal'Ganis have been arguing over each other since transfers began to occur. The denizens Blackrock often invade RP servers when Blackrock is down. In addition, informal competitions are held within battlegroups. A few servers even have official mottoes. The two I can recall right now is "Tichondrius is not for you" and "Mal'Ganis KICKS!"
Soon after launch, Magtheridon was released. The only person we have in our group is Xzin and we do not have any world-changing guilds, and we're certainly not the best at PvP. People often discuss the "Magtheridon Way", which, as far as I can tell is a matter of Alliance outnumbering Horde and a wide use of the server’s unofficial motto, which comprised of three words in length starts with "go" and closes with"yourself." Still, it's a nice place despite the slowness, and I wouldn't prefer to move elsewhere.
