In a blog entry on Wednesday Mojang wrote that NFTs don't align with Minecraft's principles and are therefore not allowed in the game.
The company said that NFTs' speculative pricing and investment mindset distracts players from the game and encourages profiteering. This is not in line with the long-term happiness of our players.
"To ensure that Minecraft players enjoy an enjoyable and safe experience, blockchain technologies are not allowed to be used within our Minecraft client or server applications and they are not permitted to be used to create NFTs associated with any content in the game," the company said.
Gaming is a tense subject since NFTs are often criticized by gamers. They have resisted Ubisoft's efforts to integrate the technology into their games.
Microsoft bought Minecraft in 2014 for $2.5 Billion. It is the most played game ever made, with 238 million units sold. The game's success can be attributable to its emphasis on accessibility and being a family-friendly.
