Microsoft is aware that Minecraft can help kids get into programming, and it's banking on this strategy once again this year. The Minecraft Hour of Code Designer tutorial teaches children aged 6 and older how to create an easy game. Minecraft servers It was developed by Microsoft and Code.org. The Designer utilizes a drag-and drop interface to show familiar code concepts, such as loops and object-oriented programming while letting your imagination fly in the Minecraft universe. You can have chickens drop gold and set rules that are as absurd or logical as you like.
The tutorial is currently available in 10 languages, and will be available in 50 languages when Computer Science Education Week begins on December 5th. This won't be the same as learning programming languages, of course. However, Microsoft and Code.org are hoping that this will highlight the importance of code to kids, and start some of them on the path to careers in computer science.
