How did an Aussie Dad Stopped his Children from Spending all Day on The Computer

A dad managed to get his kids off their screens and out cleaning up parks and beaches in a move that 'immediately led to them becoming more active and engaged'.

Sydney father Jon Owen, 47, was inspired while watching a documentary on nature with his children Molly 10, and Eve eight.

He began by taking his children and their friends to the beach to work on various projects.

One day the kids went to Bondi and picked up trash at the basketball courts.

Daily Mail Australia's Owen said that the children were so excited, it was a race to see who could get more.

Mr. Owen said his children, Eve, 8, (pictured in the left-hand corner at Bondi basketball courts) and Molly, 10, (pictured, second from right) go 'so enthusiastic and competitive' about the projects he gave them

The app lets kids take on real-world challenges such as gardening, making bird boxes, worm farms and even frog hotels.

The dad of two said he saw an improvement in his children "immediately" after he began giving them mini-projects

Mr Owen also gave the kids challenges like making a meal out of leftovers and making crafts using old clothes.

He saw positive changes in his children's lives "instantly". This was in addition to the enjoyable benefit of teaching responsibility and making them more aware of the environment.

Jon Owen (pictured) said Jon Owen wants to provide kids with an enjoyable way to learn how to live sustainably.

Mr. Owen decided to invest in getting Aussie primary school kids to have the same experiences.

Genus was co-founded by him. The tech startup created an app that empowers children to undertake real-world missions and learn valuable life skills.

The Genus app is currently being tested in over 40 schools in Australia and acts as a platform to take students out to complete environmental projects.

Some of them include creating worm farms, frog hotels and bird boxes as well as performing arts and crafts using the app that shows how to do it.

Once the 'mission' is completed, they upload the images to the app prior to going to the next level.

Mr. Owen created the app as an eco-friendly and educational alternative to the games that kids are immersed in, like Minecraft and Fortnite.

It also provides word searches and quizzes with environmental themes. Minecraft servers There are also exercises where students can make use of math to calculate the amount of soft materials they can divert from the landfill.

Tragic twist: High school buddies become legends in the sport of wrestling after a note was found at the site of the site of...

Mr Owen said it's all about taking kids on a fun journey that has a real tangible benefit.

Mr. Owen said that "Saving the Earth has always been viewed as boring, hard work... Genus makes sustainability fun for young people."

Mr Owen admits that while youngsters today are being raised in the digital age, there should be a balance that allows children become more active and get their hands dirty.

Schools can download the app no cost, however it will be charged to students in 2023, at a cost of two dollars per year.

Genus's mission is to utilize technology to solve real-world problems. Genus's app will be crowdfunded to support its development.
