The four principal developers behind Bukkit, a popular set of unofficial modifications for Minecraft servers were hired by Mojang which is the developer of the hugely popular block-world simulator. Mojang says Warren Loo, Erik Broes, Nathan Adams and Nathan Gilbert will join the company to improve Bukkit and make it more compatible with the new version of the game and to support other mods for servers in the future.
Loo writes on the official forms that the team is planning to revamp the game's API which means unofficial developers everywhere will be able hook into the game's mechanics more easily and efficiently. Mojang states that there are several teams that have made popular mods for the game, including Spout and Forge however, Bukkit is the only one. Minecraft-crafting.co Bukkit team was chosen because they've developed specifically for Minecraft servers. They'll be working on "more than just modding."
The gentlemen are obviously eager to join the Mojang players. This is what happens when a company that you're working on without charge decides to pay you in real money.
