There is no indication that the shortage of graphics cards will stop soon. In the meantime, many gamers are opting for the latest alternative to local hardware: game streaming via Xbox Game Pass, Stadia and GeForce Now. The latter now offers the most powerful version of service that lets gamers stream PC games played on an RTX3080 remote card at up 4K resolution and 120 frames per second. It was previously only available as a pre-order option, the RTX 3080 model is now available to all with a price of $99.99 for six months.
GeForce Now works a little different from its rivals at Google, Microsoft, and even Amazon. Nvidia's servers allow you to login to your Steam, Epic, Uplay and GOG.com accounts, and then stream the games you've already bought and associated with the stores. It's an excellent option for anyone who has spent a long time building up a collection digital PC games, though I'm tempted to mention that GeForce Now still only offers an curated selection of games that are sold on these sites. The list is growing every week, with new titles added each week. But notable absences include titles from EA and Bethesda as well as Activision Blizzard and Warner Bros., Microsoft and 2K. i'm only good at one thing If you're searching for something specific, here's the complete list of recently updated titles.
Nvidia
GeForce Now is split into three levels as of today which are: Priority, free, and RTX 3080. Anyone can join the free tier to enjoy basic streaming at up to 1080p/60fps. However more sophisticated visuals aren't available and game play sessions are limited to one hour (after which you can get on again, if servers aren't full). The priority tier is $10 per month (or $50 for six months) with more powerful RTX-enabled graphics however, it's only 1080p/60fps. The equivalent of an RTX 2080 is used to power it, but Nvidia may reduce your hardware when you play games that are less intense. Streaming sessions with access to premium priority can last as long as six hours, and subscribers are given a an unlocked copy of Crysis to showcase their new gaming experience.
The new RTX 3080 tier costs $100 for six months (no monthly option) with graphics powered by remote RTX 3080 "rig," 8-hour streaming sessions, and graphics at up to 1440p/120fps on the PC or Mac. Subscribers who also have an Nvidia Shield set-top box can stream games to their television in 4K resolution, at 60 frames per second (if their broadband connection is able to handle it). GeForce Now is also available on mobile devices through the Android app or the dedicated iOS web portal, and it can be played with controllers or mouse and keyboard across all platforms. Check out our first coverage of GeForce Now's RTX3080 level.
To celebrate the latest high-end graphics options, Nvidia is offering a discount on its Shield TV companion box. For a limited period the standard Shield and Shield Pro will be available for $20 off ($30CAD, EUR25 or PS20 in other countries) with a six-month free Peacock Premium subscription in the US. If you're all-in with streaming, the Shield's Android TV operating system is also able to stream games through Stadia and Xbox Game Pass.
