The Warner Bros. Minecraft movie has an entirely new director... again. Variety reports that Peter Sollett is now on board to write and direct the much-anticipated movie, which was at one point supposed to be released in May of this year. The film's production has been delayed due to director changes. The film was originally directed by Rob McElhenney (It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia) However, he left the project in August. He was replaced by Shawn Levy (Night at the Museum) who resigned in 2014.
Sollett was the director of Raising Victor Vargas, 2002 and Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist (2008). He was also recognized for his work on Five Feet High and Rising. Minecraft's developer Mojang is reportedly still working on the project.
Warner Bros. scored the rights to the Minecraft movie back in 2014, and the issue is now if Minecraft is still able to attract the viewers it could have a few years ago. While it's not known when the film will be released, there is an opportunity that it could happen, with the new director.
