This study highlighted RF heating as a potentially beneficial method for heating formation. In a later study, Bottazzi et al. (2013) examined the effectiveness of electric heating in the downhole situation.
Both of these methods can be employed for heating organic matter. The first method involves placing a object in an electromagnetic field. A second approach involves placing the object within the field that is an inductor. The electromagnetic field generates currents of electricity to flow through the material, which heats up the object. Quantity of heat produced depends in the degree of resistance that the object has against the flow of the currents as well as the duration of the exposure.
Although the biological effects of RF EMFs aren't conclusive, studies have shown a possible connection between exposure to EMF from RF and EHS symptoms. This connection requires further research to understand the extent to which EMF exposure causes EHS. For example, it has been shown that leukemia in children is linked with the proximity of homes to electric lines.
RF EMR is composed of two parts namely magnetic and electric. The two components work together to produce an electromagnetic field with different levels of strength. The intensity of the field can be measured with specific units. For instance, the electric field strength can be measured in units of volts per square millimeter. Magnetic field strength can be determined in milliwatts for every square centimeter, and the total electrical field strength of the electromagnetic fields is calculated in power density.
The non-ionizing version of EMF has a lower frequency, so it cannot break chemical bonds. On the other hand, ionizing radiation can cause chemical bonds to break and cause oxidative damage in the body. Furthermore, it could cause skin changes and tumors in certain people. Therefore, prolonged exposure could cause long-term health issues.
The research that shows the possibility that exposure RF EMF can cause EHS is not extensive. However, there are many studies that demonstrate this connection between RF EMF and oxygenative stress. Although it's still unclear what the duration of EMF exposure can cause cellular damage, it is important to know what's happening in the body so that you can avoid this problem. EMF exposure can even impact the function of organs.
The effect of heating caused by EMF from RF is caused by the polarity of the substances. When RF energy travels through a polar compound that has atomic nuclei, electrons inside the nuclei are moved away from their equilibrium positions. In the process, the electrons around the nuclei become dipoles that are induced. This dipole realignment occurs trillions of times a second. In this process, friction develops between the moving molecules and heat is generated across the entire surface of the material.
While RF radiation does not directly harm DNA, it could cause heat to build up within body tissues that could cause burns or tissue damage. Contrary to ionizing radiation RF radiation is not believed to cause cancer. However, some studies show increased tumor rates in laboratory subjects exposed RF radiation.
There are a variety of federal agencies involved in controlling and monitoring the effects from RF radiation on human bodies. This includes the Environmental Protection Agency, the Food and Drug Administration, and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
