Minecraft the End: How to find an end to The Portal

Trying to find an End Portal in Minecraft? There's only one way to get to The End. That's the End Portal. It requires commitment to jump into a new dimension. Once you've stepped in the End Portal, you can't go back.



We're sure you've got your reasons to visit the End. Perhaps you're hoping to overcome the Ender Dragon or acquire precious resources such as End Stone or Chorus. Or perhaps you just want to enjoy the endless, dark view of the End. To get there, you will need to enter an End Portal.



You can only find End Portals in the portal room of a stronghold. You'll require the Eye of Enders to guide you to the location of a stronghold. Then, you'll have to dig very deep underground to find it. Once you've found it, you'll find it atop an lava pool. The majority of End Portals have some Eyes of Ender in place with a 10% chance of generating with an existing eye.



The End Portal activated will instantly transport you to the End. There is no way to stop it. Once you've reached the End you will be spawned on a central island, with smaller islands around to explore. You'll need to defeat the Ender Dragon on the main island to gain access to the outer islands or leave The End. This will open the possibility of completing the game' and then return to the normal Minecraft overworld as we know it - or further explore the outer islands.



How to create an End portal in Minecraft



In survival mode, you'll need to find a stronghold to activate an End Portal - in creative, you can create your own. Here's how to activate an End Portal:



12 x Eyes of Ender 12x Portal Frame Blocks



Create a 3x3 square on the ground, then once standing inside that zone you will need to place your Portal Frame Blocks across the perimeter of that 3x3 square.



You can activate the End Portal by placing all 12 Eyes of Ender in the appropriate blocks regardless of whether you built it yourself or found one in a Stronghold. Make sure you place all of the Eyes of Ender vertically as the portal won't be able to open when you put even one Eye of Ender horizontally. It will be obvious that it's working if you are unable to see the lava (if looking at the stronghold version) and the ground (your created version).
