Like those Struggling with Language Barriers

Content of the article Joseph Filiplic changed the way he taught during the pandemic. He's not going back to the way he taught.

Article content "When everyone was learning online, many also worked from home. My students were frequently performing additional duties at their homes. His J.J. Bowlen Catholic Jr High students were "bereavement aids" for their younger siblings and other, he stated. "I had to ensure that I was able to reach my students. They were being pulled in various directions and doing something completely new to me.

The answer is: What he calls a flipped lesson style, using mostly Microsoft education tools - such as video-conferencing platform Teams, note-taking app OneNote and video-discussion software Flipgrid. "I would record all my lessons and upload them on YouTube, then I would integrate them into Teams and OneNote," says Filiplic. The course materials and assignments can be accessed on almost any device using the platform.

He hoped that his pupils could weather the epidemic without suffering. They did more than endure, and they flourished to his delight. Even though they failed in traditional classroom environments, the kids were still getting better. He was now able to reach students who learn differently. Many students have difficulty with difficulties with language, learning disabilities, and even shyness.

"I was aware from that point on that I wouldn't be able to return to the old stand-and-deliver approach. It has to be more interactive from now on. He suggests that it should be more collaborative. So, when classes in person resumed the digital tools remained. Filiplic continues to record his lessons in video, allowing students to respond via Flipgrid. Students can also contact Filiplic or message him via Teams whenever they want. It's much more like a modern office with flexible hours and motivated workers. Filiplic says, "My students don't stay inside the four walls anymore." "They know the teaching doesn't end when the bell goes. It has removed a lot of barriers.

Filiplic says that the article content was a natural selection from the beginning. Microsoft is the gold standard for workplaces. Editum "I thought, okay, I'm teaching social studies but am I only teaching that one subject or am I teaching my students to be better social citizens? And what is going to happen when they get older? Everything was pointing toward Microsoft," he says.

As a company, Microsoft has been laser-focused on the education market in particular with the launch of Windows SE, a cloud-based version of its flagship operating software. The new platform will be made available on budget-friendly tablets as well as laptops from Acer, Asus and Dell, as well as Microsoft directly under the Surface brand.

Paige Johnson, Microsoft vice president of education marketing she says that Windows SE has purpose-built features that will help students from K-8 in the ways we've heard students asking for. The new interface reduces visual distractions, for example and puts inclusive, customizable learning tools front and centre. These include Microsoft Teams and OneNote, plus features such as Reading Progress - an AI tool that helps teachers evaluate students' fluency remotely - as well as Immersive Reader, an interactive reading comprehension and learning tool that makes text more accessible to students of all ages.

"Reading Progress is fantastic for allowing educators to focus on teaching where they need it," says Johnson. "If I notice that my children mispronounce the word 'physical' I may find that I'm not saying it loud enough or that I need to provide more reading samples that contain the word.

Article content The company also offers free Microsoft 365 for students that comes packaged with Flipgrid and an educational edition of Minecraft the world-building video game.

For Filiplic his new releases, they are sure to open new doors in a field that's filled with opportunities for teachers, students and even parents who can now keep track with their children's progress as never before. His YouTube videos have been popular with teachers across Canada and he has been actively helping others to alter the lecture method.

"I'm in my 17th year of teaching and I'm having so much energy I'm feeling like a teacher who was in my first year," he says. "I'm very happy to have discovered these tools because I know I'm reaching more students than ever before. I can't go back. I'm not going to go back."
