'Minecraft' now has 112 million Monthly Players

Fortnite isn't the most played game, but that doesn’t mean that it's hurting other games. Microsoft's Helen Chiang told Business Insider in an interview that Minecraft currently has 112 million active users every month, an increase of 20 million over figures from October 2018. This includes players on all platforms and includes those who play the game as part of an Xbox Game Pass, but this is still a significant feat for a game which has existed in various forms for roughly a decade.



Chiang explained it as an advantage of the imaginative game's enduring popularity -it's a title players "keep coming back to." You may fire up Fortnite or other games that get the spotlight however there's a good chance you'll return to building tunnels and homes in Minecraft after that.



Other factors are likely important too. On top of its sheer popularity across platforms, Minecraft's unwieldy graphics and simple mechanics allow it to be played on low-end devices, whether it's an affordable PC or smartphone. You can spend a minimal amount on hardware and still get a quality experience.



Microsoft's goal is to keep the game relevant. The augmented reality feature of Minecraft Earth helps, as do ray-tracing and other efforts to improve the appearance. But it's not clear whether this is enough. minecraft crafting Roblox recently reached 100 million monthly players, and Fortnite could be getting close (it reported 78.3million users in August 2018). It may not take long for other games to capture the cultural zeitgeist.
