Saving accounts used to pay interest rates of around 5% ten years ago. A $10000 savings account would have earned $500 in interest every year if you had it sleeping. There is no interest on savings accounts in the US, which is ridiculously low at 005%. Your bank account value is declining every year because it is below inflation, meaning you are becoming poorer every year.
It's great to have liquidity, but if you have too much, you should invest and diversify. A financial crash can also be prevented by doing this.
In this post, I will discuss investing in watches in order to get interest rates above 5%. This includes investing in stocks, dividends, real estate, gold, and wine. Unlike cars, luxury watches do not lose value over time (in fact, they are actually worth more as soon as you buy them, since they take so long to arrive).
In the figure below, we can see how Rolex's prices have evolved over time. An Stainless Submariner Date Rolex purchased for $5000 in 2008 is worth almost double in 2019.

Taking a look at the evolution of Rolex watches prices against savings account interest rates, let's see how the two compare. The figure below shows the price evolution of luxury watches (plain lines) against the interest rate growth on the same capital if it had been placed in a saving account at 10 percent (10 times the average rate in the US).

As a final comparison, let's examine the return on investment for an investment in real estate (with a hypothetical 5% interest rate). According to the graph below, in general, real estate investing is more profitable than investing in a Rolex (the Stainless Submarine Date is an exception). The Rolex, however, is more affordable than real estate, and furthermore, does not require you to manage tenants (see Managers, ).
