Minecraft Convention Firm Sorry over Peterborough's Complaint-hit Event

Minecraft convention firm sorry over Peterborough's protest-stricken event

15 September 2015

After parents were angry and criticized the convention on social media, the organizers of a Minecraft convention said they were "truly sorry".

However, dozens of people claimed that they spent hours waiting to meet famous players and demanded refunds.

O'Brien Event Management stated that a new system would be developed to reduce queues in the near future.

The convention, which was not approved by Minecraft's developer Mojang, gave fans the chance to meet famous "Youtubers" as well as take pictures and play games.

Lisa O'Brien of O'Brien Event Management previously told the BBC that the queues were 45 minutes long because of the huge crowds of people showing up on the day and not buying tickets in advance.

The company also released an announcement on its website, saying: "We are truly sorry that our event didn't live up to a few peoples' expectations."

"MineVention" is a'meet-and-greet' event, and there will be lines. However it will provide children the unique opportunity to meet their heroes.

"We have considered all your comments about this event into consideration. In the future we will put in place a queueing system and will be adding more content."

Peterborough Arena, responsible for catering, also released an apology statement for the long lines and the "sheer" number of patrons who walked through the doors on that day.

Both parties agreed they would follow up with any parents who came to them disgruntled.

No comment has been made regarding refunds, but some parents have told BBC they received their refunds on the day after complaining to staff.

Online ticketing company YPlan stated that it was "actively seeking information from the event partner to know their position regarding refunds and will try to compensate all of our customers who were dissatisfied with this event".
