Rockstar Servers down for Nearly an Entire Day as Remastered GTA Trilogy Launch [Updated]

PC games are removed from sale because of an outage that blocks access to certain players' purchases.

Rockstar announced on Friday night, nearly 29 hours after the outage was first reported on the internet, that the Rockstar Launcher had been restored and that the majority of the company's PC games are now accessible. GTA: The Trilogy-The Ultimate Edition was not affected. However, it's currently "unavailable to purchase or play as we take out files that were not intended to be included with these versions." Rockstar stated, "We're sorry for any inconvenience and we hope to have the right ones up in the near future."

The servers for Rockstar Games Launcher PC have been down for nearly 24 hours now. PC versions of Rockstar's Games have been removed from the Rockstar Games website. The company's timing of the outage is particularly difficult, since it occurs just before the release of the remastered Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy.



Rockstar has acknowledged the issue in a support tweet on Thursday afternoon. It was merely noting that "services for the Rockstar Games Launcher and other supported games are temporarily offline due to maintenance. Services will resume when maintenance is completed." After 14 hours, the company gave a brief update with the following statement "We thank you for your patience and understanding as we work on restoring services for the Rockstar Games Launcher as well as supported titles." The same update is also available on the Rockstar support website.

PC Gamer reports that the launcher is now loading in offline mode for users who have previously launched specific games on the service. Multiplayer games such as Grand Theft Auto Online and Red Dead Redemption Online remain inaccessible on PC for the moment however. For those who have just downloaded the GTA Definitive Trilogy, an online authentication check won't be able to function during the outage.

While the authentication process for these games could be restored in the near future however, it's still a pain that they have to sign in online. The games do not have online capabilities, not even leaderboards for friends, let alone the two-player mode that was featured in San Andreas. This shambling of the PC version is inexcusable.



This outage occurs one month after Rockstar removed the download versions from the PC and console storefronts of the original Grand Theft Auto trilogy before the release of the remaster. Anyone who previously purchased those versions can download and play them on their original platforms. These versions also make use the Rockstar Launcher for PC, therefore new downloads aren't yet available.



Rockstar has given no indication of when it expects its PC services to be restored. We'll inform you if and when we hear more.
