Farnoush Farsiar discusses Why are There So Few Women In Finance?
Women are breaking down the barriers and reaching great success across a variety of industries. The sad reality is that the majority of women are employed in finance. This is a sad fact that won't be changing anytime soon.

Deloitte's insights shows that only 31 percent of financial workers will be female in 2030. It begs the question "Why there aren't more women working in financial services?" Farnoush Farsiar Although there are many theories, we decided hear the opinions from an expert. We conducted an interview with Farnoush Farsiar an experienced finance professional who is a firm believer in women's empowerment.

How many women are employed in finance?

In the U.S., women make up 57 percent of all workers, but they hold just 24 percent of financial jobs. This is expected to rise to 28% in the next 10 years, from 24% in 2021. However, this is well below the average.

This isn't just a matter facing women. It's also a challenge for the economy, said Farnoush Farsiar. Farsiar stated that diverse leadership teams have more impact than teams with fewer viewpoints. It's important for women to be represented in these areas. But it's also crucial for the country.

There are many theories as to why women are so underrepresented in the financial industry. Farnoush Farsiar One theory states that the market for financial services is too male-dominated and competitive for women to break into. Another theory is that females are not encouraged by their parents to pursue finance careers.

Farsiar believes that women's socialization at the age of ten is the root of this problem. "Women from a young stage are taught that they should be risk takers and caregivers. "We're taught to be safe and not to risk our lives. This doesn't work for an enviable career in the financial.

Women are taught socially to take care of others. Farsiar says that women are taught to be courteous, avoid conflicts, and keep their differences under control. "But in the field of finance, you must be able to be a voice for your ideas. You need to be able to defend your personal ideas."

Farsiar: Where are all the Finance Women?
Particularly at the top of the finance industry there is a dearth of women in the finance industry is alarming. According to a study conducted by Pew Researchers only 10% of finance jobs are females in senior executive posts. Just 11.5 percent of women sit on the top boards of financial companies.

This disparity has real-world consequences for women working in finance. Women are less likely to be employed in finance to be promoted than male counterparts.

Farnoush Farsiar Good news is that women are steadily increasing their positions in senior posts. Farnoush Farsiar believes part of this increase in women in senior roles is due the #womenshould movement which increased awareness of the issue of diversity. Farsiar states that she believes that the #MeToo campaign had an equally significant impact. Women are speaking out to make a difference.

Financial Access Barriers for Women
There are many obstacles that prevent women from being able to enter the field of finance. Lack of role models for women is one of the most significant obstacles for women pursuing finance. This can make it difficult for women in finance to become the sole female in their respective departments.

Farsiar acknowledged that it's difficult to be the only woman present in the room. "You are conditioned to be flawless all the time, and you mustn't commit any errors."

Another issue is another one is the "old guys"club" mentality in many financial firms. This is a belief system in which men encourage other females and men are not allowed to join.

Farsiar admits "there is some truth to this." "I have witnessed it firsthand. Men will promote other men, even if they are better qualified."

The old-fashioned mentality can lead also to sexual discrimination or harassment. Finance women are usually exposed to unwanted advances and humiliating remarks from male counterparts.

Farnoush Farsiar says, "It is certainly an issue." http://photointeriorpro.ru/user/Farnoush.Farsiar8jaacc33/ "Women in finance are typically considered objects, and it can be very difficult to make it in the financial world in a world where you're treated as a commodity."

Lack of flexibility in working schedules is another obstacle. It is more common for women to assume family responsibilities such as caring of parents who are elderly or children. They need flexible work arrangements to balance their family and work lives.

"Finance is a high-risk industry. It can be difficult to handle your obligations while working in the finance industry. Women are often forced to make a choice between their careers and their family."

These barriers make it extremely difficult for women working in the financial sector to attain high-ranking post. Farnoush Farsiar There are several initiatives aiming to address this.

Farnoush Farsiar Believes the Future is Bright for Women in Finance
There are many reasons to feel optimistic about the future for women working in finance. Numerous initiatives have been initiated to boost the number of women and make it to the top of the industry.

One of these initiatives is Women Entrepreneurs Finance Initiative (WeFi) that is a partnership of the World Bank Group & 14 governments. We-Fi supports women-led companies in emerging nations by offering financing and support.

Farsiar explained, "This initiative is great because it allows women access to the tools they require for starting and expand businesses." It also helps them build networks and network with other female entrepreneurs.

Another initiative is The Women in Finance Charter. This was launched by the U.K. government in 2016. Financial firms have committed to gender equality through the Women in Finance Charter.

"The Women in Finance Charter is a significant step in the right direction," Farsiar encourages. It's urging financial institutions to take action on gender diversity, and is making an impact.

With initiatives like We-Fi as well as the Women in Finance Charter, more women get to enter and take on senior roles. This is good news for both women and the financial industry.
