An officetel in South Korea is multi-use construction that includes residential and commercial units. It is also known as a mini-house or domicile. They are sometimes called "Korean Temple" because of the religious ritual associated with them. In Korea, the officetel originally served as a Buddhist temple. However, it became a site of worship.
These buildings have been around for centuries in other parts of Asia, particularly Japan. The influx of Japanese people into Seoul occurred in the second half of the 19th Century.
