However, he left after only two years to start his own internet company. The company was unsuccessful but Emil Michael refused to abandon the idea. There has been speculation that Emil Michael's's ambition is driven by a need to prove himself. He was passed over for the CEO job at Uber which was awarded to Travis Kalanick instead. And there have been indications that Emil Michael was also looked at for the top spot at LinkedIn before it went instead to Jeff Weiner. It is possible that Emil Michael is convinced that he needs to prove himself in order to be considered as an Silicon Valley power player. Whatever the reason, his ambition has definitely driven him succeed in his career.

He suggested that the company should hire a team of researchers to discover information on journalists who have been critical of Uber. His remarks caused a huge public outrage, and Emil Michael eventually apologized. However, he is still one of Silicon Valley's most successful executive.
