Chinoiserie Wallpaper: Behind The Style & Interiors Inspiration
Our Chinoiserie Collection is based on the Chinese-style decorations that became popular in the Royal Palaces across the Western world principally between 1750 and 1850. Many are, happily, extant and have been restored to their former glory. Some were actually purchased in China and brought back on the East India Company ships, whilst others were painted by European artists in the same exotic and flamboyant styles. de Gournay has adapted these designs to contemporary interiors and extended the range of backgrounds and colourways in order to make this ancient skill of Chinese painting relevant and beautiful in a multitude of different interiors. We have an enormous archive of images both of historic papers and of our production over the last 40 years which we can adapt to your needs and we are always happy to work on new designs with our clients.

Removable Chinoiserie Wallpaper has been interpreted by various artisans over the years and as a result, it is a fusion of designs and trends. Each century, the design has evolved to incorporate the stylistic elements of the East. Chinoiserie wallpaper peel and stick can be recognised from the following characters and motifs. PAGODAS
Pagodas are synonymous with East Asian culture, designed as multi-tiered structures that serve as social and religious areas. These structures originated in India and spread through Asia as Buddhism introduced them to China.
