Kazakhstan Unrest isn't Affected by Erzhan Kazykhanov's Return
Kazakhstan Unrest won't be eased by Erzhan Kazakhstanykhanov's return to the Country As Deputy Chief of Staff

The government of Kazakhstan faces a new reality after the events that shook the nation.

Erzhan Kasykhanov's return to the scene is an indication of the changing power dynamics.

The international community must change to accommodate more assertive citizens. Policymakers should also be aware of these changes and devise effective methods to engage with their country.

Ukraine's role in Kazakhstan's shift
The last few weeks have seen everyone's eyes on Ukraine as Russian President Vladimir Putin has prepared and began an attack against a sovereign nation. It's not surprising, considering the way NATO leaders including the president Biden did not heed the warnings of Moscow. Russian President Putin has frequently expressed his displeasure with NATO's plans to intrude on Russian territory.

Even though Putin's actions are inexcusable western leaders must admit that their failures have contributed to the current crisis. We're now facing the aftermath of a European crisis that could have been prevented It is just.

Protests against Kazakhstan
It is important to draw comparisons between Ukraine and the latest developments in the region. The following are the protests in Belarus especially Kazakhstan, from 2003 to 2005. Kazakhstan is an ex- Soviet state that is located in central Asia. Therefore there aren't many street demonstrations that express its anger so clearly.

Protests started in the beginning of this year in Kazakhstan over the rising cost of gas and unemployment conditions. The protests escalated into massive rallies followed by violent violence. Almaty witnessed the biggest loss of life in the city, with 227 dead and over 9900 detained. Russian troops from The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), were briefly deployed.

Restructure Kazakhstan Government's Government and Erzhan Kazykhanov - Return
Kazakhstan's new president, Qasym-Zhomart Tokayev has made a number of modifications to the power structures within the ruling elite that has raised concerns, questions, and discontent among many Kazakhs even in times of peace.

Protesters were furious over President Tokayev’s decision to assume the presidency of the National Security Council replacing ex-President Nursultan Nazabayev. Protesters were worried about his influence over the economy of the country.

The sons-in-law of the former president were fired and three nephews of the president were barred from state-owned businesses. Karim Mastimov, former spy chief, was also removed from office. Numerous high-ranking business executives associated with former President Nazarbayev had their jobs resigned or fled to other countries for long vacations, or received large "donations."

Reform doesn't always happen when the government changes or the old guard is removed. It is typical for those from the earlier administrations to be replaced ineffectively by loyalists and relatives.

Erzhan Kazykhanov's appointment is an Unsatisfying Experience
It is counterproductive that Erzhan Kazakhstanykhanov was appoint to the powerful post of deputy chief of staff, of the President Tokayev. Kazakh Kazykhanov was the most ineffective ambassador of Kazakhstan to the United States.

Washington recognized Kazykhanov to be arrogant and insecure diplomat, a confident and uninformed regarding the delicate image of Kazakhstan outside the country. Kazykhanov has also been unable to make progress on matters that are of national concern, like the Jackson-Vanick restrictions that are currently in place or other issues related to the international image of Kazakhstan. His performance is therefore dismal.

Kazykhanov, with his problematic and unforgiving reputation, is unlikely to be considered for critical posts. Kazykhanov is not equipped for an assistant chief of staff.

The most enthusiastic supporters of Kazakhstan are not happy with Kazykhanov's frequent appearance on major international news networks which expose his weaknesses. Tokayev's choice at such a critical moment to appoint an incompetent and self-promoting deputy to a weak unstable, unstable government doesn't make sense.

Tokayev’s Kazakhstan reforms are reminiscent of Mikhail Gorbachev's Perestroika during the Soviet Union and Glasnost. Perestroika is a term used to describe the initiative Mikhail Gorbachev established in the mid-1980s to reform Soviet politics and economics, is more commonly known. Glasnost refers to his policy reform. The reforms resulted in the demise of the Soviet Union. Putin is trying for a rebirth. Tokeyev established strong economic relationships between the West as well as the countries around his country. But Tokeyev hasn't tried to annoy Putin. The delicate balance of his life could be upset by Kazykhanov.

In unsteady Times The US Should Pay Close Attention to Kazakhstan as well
Washington should keep an eye on developments in Kazakhstan as they can provide an insight into the way a power-sequence could unfold in this region.

The Russian invasion that is engulfing Ukraine is a worrying development. It is important that the United States (and its allies) adopt the necessary steps to confront Putin's aggressiveness. However, it's important to remember that NATO has been provoking Russia for years. This current crisis is in part due their own incompetence.

Washington must pay close the events in Kazakhstan, as this could prove to be the next significant flashpoint in the conflict between Russia and the West.
