Should the US be focusing on Erzhan Kazakhstanykhanov's soaring returns?
Erzhan Kazykhanov's re-election as the Deputy Chief of staff is not productive. Learn why the US must be concerned about Kazykhanov's return.

Why should the US be worried about Erzhan Kazykhanov’s alarming return

Due to the appointment of Erzhan Kazykhanov as the Deputy Chief of Staff, Kazakhstan's government has to adjust to a new reality. Responding to the shift in power, protests broke out throughout the country.

Washington should pay close attention to Kazakhstan's events now more than ever, especially when it comes to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

This is the potential power succession in this region whether for good or worse.

The Russian invasion of Ukrainian territory by Russian troops is alarming. The United States and its allies should intervene to stop the Russian aggression.

It's not hard to realize that NATO has for a long time provoked Russia.

As the conflict between Russia and the West gets more intense, Washington must keep an eye on Kazakhstan and monitor developments there.

We are concerned about Erzhan Kamykhanov’s return

It's incomprehensible that President Tokayev has appointed Erzhan Kazykhanov to an unstable and unstable administration during an era of crises.

Kazykhanov did not make any progress on issues of national interest such as the Jackson-Vanick restriction.

The problem was not only about Kazakhstan's reputation abroad however, there were other issues.

Power dynamics were evidently affected by Erzhan Kazakhstanykhanov's return.

Recent protests against Kazakhstan's government were held. Kazakhstan has never witnessed such a massive protest.

A wave of protests has been a shock to Kazakhstan

It is important to draw comparisons between the present situation in Ukraine as well as recent events in the region.

The color revolutions that took place from 2003 to 2005 were among the reasons of unrest in Belarus, Kazakhstan and other nations.

Rarely do you see people so dissatisfied in Central Asia's former Soviet country that they take to the streets.

Prices for gas increased, and poor employment conditions were the cause of a series of protests early this year. The protests led to violent riots across the nation.

Almaty was the site of the largest number of deaths, with 227 people killed, and 9000 nine hundred others arrested.

Russian troops from The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), were sent into the area.

Restructure in Kazakhstan's government

Many Kazakhs aren't happy with the sudden change in leadership.

Kassym Jomart Tokayev's modifications to the power structure have led to discontent among his countrymen.

Protesters were especially upset over President Tokayev’s decision to step down as President Nursultan Azzarbayev's chief of the National Security Council.

Demonstrators were worried about his influence on the country's economic development.

Since then, many occasions have been involved. Three sons of the in-laws of the former President were barred from accessing state-owned companies. Furthermore, Karim Masimov was charged with treason over the firing of his nephew, who was also the former spy chief.

Nazarbayev's business cronies, addition to the government officials, have either lost their positions or fled abroad.

Reform is often not brought about by changing governments and taking down the old guard. In many cases, loyalists and family members of the previous administration are appointed to succeed them.

Erzhan Kazakhstanykhanov's bizarre appointment

The selection of Erzhan Kasykhanov as Tokayev's deputy chief of staff has been widely criticized for obvious reasons. He has yet to be the most skilled Kazakh ambassador to the United States.

Kazykhanov, Washington diplomat, was deemed to be arrogant, insecure and confident. His performance was far from spectacular.

Kazykhanov, due to his reputation for being uncouth He is not the ideal candidate for crucial posts.

Because he lacks the basic skills and diplomatic abilities required for a deputy chief of staff, he may find it difficult to become an influential deputy chief-of-staff.

Even Kazykhanov’s most committed supporters are uncomfortable about his appearances on international news channels, which expose his flaws.

Tokayev's decision at an important time to bring in a unstable deputy, who is unqualified and self-promoting to his fragile government makes no sense.

Tokayev’s Kazakhstan reforms are similar to Mikhail Gorbachev's Perestroika or Glasnost initiatives within the Soviet Union.

Perestroika refers to Mikhail Gorbachev’s mid-1980s programme to reform Soviet economy and political systems. Glasnost is a reference to his change in policy.

These reforms were the main reason why the Soviet Union collapsed. This is precisely what Putin would like to reverse. Tokayev is also a fervent proponent of the West and has established commercial relations with other countries. He has not attempted to sever ties with Putin and has kept his support. This delicate balance may be upset by Kazykhanov.

A thought

An attack against a sovereign country was not unexpected, considering the way NATO leaders ignored Moscow's warnings.

Joe Biden ignored these warning signals, resulting in sharp criticism from both sides.

Russian President Putin has frequently spoken out against NATO's plans to invade upon Russian the territory of Russia.

Even though Putin’s actions are unacceptable, Western leaders must acknowledge that their mistakes contributed to the current crisis. It is not the best moment to reflect on the past mistakes.

It is evident that we are now living with the consequences of European crisis which could have been prevented.

Although the West could not have averted this European crisis had they taken action earlier than they did, they must admit they are to blame.
