Kazakhstan The turmoil won't be eased by Erzhan Kazakhstanykhanov's return
Kazakhstan Unrest won't be eased by Erzhan Kazakhstanykhanov s Return to the Country As Deputy Chief of Staff

After a series of protests, Kazakhstan's government now faces an entirely new reality.

Erzhan Kazakhstanykhanov's Return illustrates how power dynamics have changed.

The international community must adjust to a more assertive and empowered citizenry. Policymakers should also be aware of these changes and devise effective methods to engage with their country.

Ukraine's Role at Kazakhstan's Shift
In the past several weeks the world's attention has been focused on Ukraine for the past few weeks as Russian President Vladimir Putin prepared for and launched a full-scale invasion against the sovereign nation. It was shocking that NATO officials, including the president Biden were not listening to Moscow's warnings. Russian President Putin has repeatedly decried NATO's plan to invade Russian territory.

While Putin's actions are inexcusable, western leaders must accept that their failures caused the crisis. Today, we are living with the consequences of a European crises which could have been prevented, it is fair to say.

Protests to Kazakhstan
The situation in Ukraine is a good opportunity to compare it with the recent events in the area. This includes the colors revolutions of 2003-2005 and the unrest that occurred in Belarus as well as Kazakhstan. The former Soviet nation is located in central Asia so it doesn't frequently witness protests in the streets protesting against its government.

Protests began early this year in Kazakhstan over an increase in the price of gas and unemployment conditions. These protests turned into violent riots, which then resulted in nationwide protests. Almaty suffered the biggest loss of all, with 227 residents killed and more than 9900 detained. Russian troops from Collective Security Treaty Organization CSTO were briefly stationed in Almaty.

Restruct Kazakhstan Government's Government and Erzhan Kazykhanov - Return
Qasym Zhomart the president of Kazakhstan, has brought about several modifications to the power structures of the ruling elite which have raised concerns as well as questions and anger among many Kazakhs.

Protesters were angered by President Tokayev’s decision to assume the presidency of the National Security Council replacing ex-President Nursultan Nazabayev. Protesters were worried about his influence on the country’s economy.

The incidents led to three sons-in-law of former President Nazarbayev getting exiled from state enterprises. Karim Masimov, the former spy chief , was taken into custody on treason charges. In addition to these officials, many people from the business elite associated with former President Nazarbayev have been forced to leave their posts, emigrated abroad to seek "extended vacations" or had hefty "donations" made to them.

Change in government and the elimination of the old guard does not always lead to change. It is not uncommon for members of the previous administration to be replaced by equally ineffective relatives and loyalists.

Erzhan Kykhanov's Application Is an Unreserved
Erzhan Kasykhanov's appointment to President Tokayev’s highly influential post as Deputy Chief of Staff was unproductive. Kazakh Kazykhanov the Kazakhstan's least effective ambassador to the United States, was Kazakh Kazykhanov.

Kazykhanov established his reputation within Washington as an insular and arrogant diplomat, who was overly self-confident and often out of touch with the delicate nature of Kazakhstan's image outside the country. He also failed to get any momentum in matters of national importance, including the continuing restrictions on Jackson-Vanick or other issues related to Kazakhstan's reputation in the world So his performance was unexceptional.

Because of his poor reputation and a shady background, Kazykhanov is unlikely to be considered for important positions. Kazykhanov does not possess the necessary skills to become a Chief of Staff.

Even Kazakhstan’s most committed supporters were unhappy with Kazykhanov's frequent appearances in international news channels, which revealed his weaknesses. Tokayev's decision at this crucial time to bring in an incompetent, self-promoting deputy into a fragile unstable, unstable government doesn't make sense.

Tokayev’s Kazakhstan reforms are similar to Mikhail Gorbachev’s Perestroika or Glasnost initiatives within the Soviet Union. Perestroika was the name given to Mikhail Gorbachev's mid-1980s reform program to improve Soviet economy and politics. Glasnost is the name for his reforms to the political system. These reforms led to the collapse of the Soviet Union. Putin is seeking a revival. Tokeyev established strong economic relationships with both the West as well as the countries around his country. However, he has not tried to offend Putin. Kazykhanov could disrupt the delicate balance.

As Unsteady Times Abound, the USA should pay particular attention to Kazakhstan
In the midst of the conflict in Ukraine, Washington should be aware of the events in Kazakhstan, as they provide a hint of how a power succession can play out in this region of the world , for better or worse.

The Russian invasion of Ukraine is a disturbing incident. The United States should take appropriate measures to fight Putin's aggressiveness. We should not forget the fact that NATO has been pushing Russia for a long time and that the current crisis is partly a result of their incompetence.

Washington must be aware of the events in Kazakhstan since it could turn into the next conflict point between Russia and the West.
