Parents have filed an Enfamil lawsuit against manufacturer Mead Johnson or even a Similac lawsuit against manufacturer Abbott Laboratories since they claim these businesses knew or needs to have known their baby formula products could cause necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) in premature infants. Manufacturers did not warn parents and medical providers about the risk.
NEC can be a serious gastrointestinal condition that causes intestinal tissue death and could be fatal in as many as 50% of cases. It causes intestinal inflammation that may cause holes in the intestine. Bacteria through the intestine can leak into the abdomen or blood, causing serious illness or deadly blood infections.
Dating back to 1990, a report in Lancet said NEC was up to 10 times more common in premature babies given formula. Since then, a lot more reports have linked cow’s milk-based formula to a greater risk of NEC in premature infants, as outlined by baby formula lawsuits.
Mead Johnson and Abbott Laboratories products Enfamil and Similac have zero warnings about NEC as a baby formula side effect or proper instructions or guidelines for use, as outlined by parents who filed a Similac lawsuit or Enfamil lawsuit. The businesses also marketed their products as safe and good for premature infants despite the potential risks.
Parents are suing for extensive financial losses and emotional distress related to their baby’s injuries or death.
Who Qualifies to File a Similac or Enfamil Lawsuit?
Parents who'd a premature infant informed they have necrotizing enterocolitis after being fed Similac or Enfamil can file an infant formula lawsuit for potential compensation.
Your baby may have been fed Similac or Enfamil within the hospital. If you are unsure, your lawyer may be able to be useful for finding out. Be sure you provide you with the name from the hospital along with the hospital’s location.
After your infant was discharged from the hospital, you may have fed your infant a Similac or Enfamil formula product. Lawyers encourage parents to hold any receipts, proof purchase, packaging or boxes from your formula for evidence in their potential baby formula lawsuit.
