Gustavo Petro won the Historic Pact with Lights and Shadows
Gustavo Petro the candidate confirmed on Sunday the favoritism which was evident in polls for several week.

Ex-senator of the Republic and former mayor in Bogota has won the victory in the Historic Pact coalition. Officially as of now, he's an aspirant to the presidency which he hopes to win three times.

The high percentage of votes he received at the meeting makes him the most representative of the Colombian Left and is a strong presidential candidate, despite his controversial ideas and proposals on multiple fronts, such as the economic one.

Petro stated his intent to make a change to the pension system through the creation of a public administrator for pension funds. Petro is also planning to develop a system which is "mixed-and-complementary" and private fund.

He said that Colombia is not a pension system, but instead a system that is based on bank profit. This is what many believe would make him the most likely candidate to win the Presidency. Petro said that there is "no requirement" to increase the age of retirement.

Another controversy about him is the fact that he has repeatedly stated that he will end the extraction of oil once he comes into the helm. This situation has caused uncertainty among investors as well as the market.

Experts estimate that Petro's plans to stop oil exploration could cost Colombia approximately $4.3 billion.
