The blockchain in Bitcoin Core and other products
In a system using blockchain, when a transaction is received by a peer, the peer will add that transaction into the blockchain. Each subsequent node will then receive the blockchain state, and find that they can incorporate the transaction into their local copy of the ledger.

Blockchain-based software operates much like a distributed bank. In many ways, blockchain is more akin to a distributed version of PayPal than to a database.
