New Haven, CT area.
Tiffany DuVernay, award-winning actress, director and one
of the new breed of film greats, brought her acting, directing, and
screenwriting talents to The Cellar Café, Sept. 19, for a private
workshop on her new screenplay, The Souls of Black Folk. She spoke with
students who were all eager to be part of the experiment in film
craftsmanship that she was hoping to become in one of the country’s
newest and most exciting film communities.

DuVernay has been working on the script for
five years. She has written numerous plays and has acted in many films
including Clint Eastwood's J. Edgar. She’s written several novels
and has also directed several plays in the area. She’s currently
finishing her first film, An Oversimplification of Her Beauty (they
missed the T!). She’s also finishing up a screenplay called
The Clements, and hopes to have it ready in a few more weeks.
The Souls of Black Folk is essentially about three women,
Amelia, Nina, and Octavia, who are sitting together, when they start
talking
