Blocks
Each block in a blockchain starts with a special initial data structure known as a header, which contains information regarding the source and destination addresses for the transaction, a timestamp, the type of transaction (i.e., whether it is a transfer, a payment, or a contract), and an identifier of the previous block in the chain. The body of the block contains transactions received by the node, and unspent transaction outputs of earlier transactions. A node will perform validation on the transactions in a block (as described below) before including them in the block's transaction log.[17][verification requires the signature of the sender, a digest of previous transactions and a newly created nonce]; and an unconditional allowance of the unspent outputs, even if they were spent in an earlier block[18] (but it is possible to restore these unspent outputs to their possession later by spending the same inputs; see Reclaiming unspent outputs). This property, known as malleability, makes double-spending a unique client-side problem in a blockchain network. Any blockchain data structure which complies with the preceding is called a distributed ledger.[4]:ch. 2 – 3 – 5 – 8 – ch. 12. ch. 13 – 14 – 17 – 18 – 19 – 54The block time is approximately 10 minutes and blocks are produced at a rate of roughly one every 10 minutes. On average, every hour, a new block is produced to the blockchain, composed of a payload of transactions and transaction fees.

Mining
Block production begins when a miner (a node that has found a block) solves a cryptographic proof-of-work problem by mining a solution to a computationally difficult puzzle. The puzzle required to create a valid block is the subject of continual change; the difficulty of the proof-of-work algorithm changes slowly on average every two weeks and adjusts dynamically whenever a block is not mined in a set amount of time.: ch. 25  94 95 96 97 98 99 100 101 102 103 104�
