Augurey (sering disebut Phoenix Irlandia) hewan asli dari Inggris dan Irlandia namun terkadang ditemukan juga di tempat lain di bagian Eropa Utara. Burung kecil berwarna hitam kehijauan ini memiliki tampang sedih dan penampilannya terlihat seperti burung hering kecil yang kurang makan. Hewan ini amat sangat pemalu, ia lebih senang menghabiskan waktunya di sarangnya yang berbentuk air mata yang terdapat disemak-semak berduri. Burung yang memangsa serangga-serangga besar dan peri-peri ini hanya terbang saat hujan lebat, selebihnya ia lebih memilih mendekam di sarangnya.
Sudah sangat lama dipercaya bahwa tangisan sedih yang berupa jeritan dari Augurey meramalkan kematian. Para penyihir sangat menghindari sarang Augurey karena suara yang dihasilkan Augurey sangat mengejutkan jantung. Kabar yang beredar ada beberapa penyihir yang terkena serangan jantung saat melewati sarang augurey. Namun, setelah diteliti lebih dalam, Augurey ternyata bernyanyi saat akan datang hujan, sejak saat itu Augurey eksis dan mendapatkan gelar sebagai burung peramal cuaca. Bulu burung Augurey tidak dapat dijadikan pena karena bulu burung ini tidak dapat menyerap tinta.
