These Minecraft Ancient City Redesigns Are Gloriously Green

Minecraft builders are rehabilitating the 1.19 update's cities from the past as if they were never ruined.

As as if the dark and gloomy world of Minecraft 1.19 wasn't enough, brave builders are creating new versions of Minecraft 1.19's ancient cities. You know, just a bit of light building between other projects.

The vast, ruined structures that lie beneath are spooky. They have ruinous pillars that abound in the darkness, covered with Sculk blocks, and shriekers that call a warden to call you if you aren't in their territory.

Perhaps the wardens are just cranky because their homes are in disrepair though. These builders are restoring the old cities to their glory of the past. A lot of these cities have been completely remodeled with lush cave greenery, to show that they were once real cities. Some add their own legends and brighten up the darkness by putting up a large number of bright blocks. At least one of them decided to keep the spooky vibe. Perhaps the cities of the past were always dangerous. The most bold of these builders have even constructed their buildings in rigid mode, not in a creative way. I'm not going to do this.

Most of these builds get help for their vibrant auras from the top Minecraft shaders and Minecraft texture packs. I've gathered a selection of the most amazing old city designs and models out there right now with a link to the builder who designed them. As always, this is the latest in incredible Minecrafting. We've also gathered up some stunning desert temple redesigns underwater bases, as well as many more of the top Minecraft builds.

Unsorted Guy restores an old city to its former glory. Unsorted Guy shows how he began by replacing all the sculk in the city with deepslate blocks. He also converted the ceilings into stalactites and brought in tons and tons of vines from the caves that were lush. Unsorted Guy also relocates grass blocks, excavates a stream, and creates his own version of an old city farm. This place was at one time alive. The final build has a mountain-city vibe because of the water.

This Andyisyoda-inspired city is making me feel big Atlantis vibes. There's tons of greenery that is being added to this site. I guess no one would want to believe that these underground cities were always grey and uncolored, right?

The timelapse of the build shows Andyisyoda constructing incredible bridges over a layer water that is dripping with vines. They kept some of the spookiness going with an lava moat which circles the huge portal. They have a whole sunken city, surrounded by towers and huge draping greenery.

As if creating a city by hand weren't difficult enough, Fixxitt412 has done it entirely in hardcore survival mode, which means there is no life after death, over 100 days. Fixxitt's build is also super green, with manicured areas of flowers and farms, but they haven't completely eliminated all sculk. This feels like a nice addition.

The building has a magical feel to it, with of light and stained-glass emanating from copper conduits located at the top of the central portal. Just another wordpress site They've even planned houses for a group of villagers to descend and live in the darkness, though I think about how long they'll last.

Another lush subterranean city was built by RandomGgames (opens in new tab) and OceanManRulesZaWardo. This one is more of an overgrown style and could be more abandoned than the original cities are. It is surrounded by a lot of vines, leaves, and traditional glowstone blocks to light it, just like other gorgeous green structures. It appears like the two have cleared out pretty much all the sculk and have replaced it with wood walkways and arches that are deepslate.

This "build" is actually just two images (opens new tab), but it's a pretty good image and I couldn't resist including it for the other people who are looking for inspiration in this room.

This is the complete opposite of the peaceful, green recreations that Seggie has made of the ancient city. If Seggie ever fleshed this out I'm sure it would look like an even more frightening place than Nether fortresses. The skull archway and blue flames are extremely threatening.

This is not a Minecraft build. It's a Lego set design based off the ancient cities created by Veyniac540 (opens in new tab). It's an absolute delight. They've even put together building instructions and parts list in case you are looking to build it yourself (opens in new tab). That is, after you get done building things inside Minecraft.
