Minecraft continues to expand its reach on new platforms with a European launch on Vita on October 15. 4J Studios, the UK team porting the sandbox game, tweeted that there's not any date confirmed for North America, adding "hopefully we'll hear soon."
Cross-buying is possible with the portable Minecraft version. If you have already purchased the game on PSN it is also possible to buy it on Vita. In May, the Mojang, the game's developer, Mojang stated that the price was $20, as per PS3, you can transfer saves between PS3 and Vita, and DLC purchases are active on both editions.
At the time, Mojang said it was working with Sony to "look into ways to enable upgrade from the Blu-ray disc version of Minecraft: Playstation 3 Edition to Minecraft: Playstation 3 and Vita." We reached out to Sony to confirm that users of Minecraft on PS3 Bluray can also access the Vita edition for free. We're waiting to hear release dates for the Vita retail version. The next week's launch is limited to PSN.
It continues to be an active time at Minecraft headquarters which is now Microsoft following the company's $2.5 billion acquisition of Mojang and its wildly popular game. After being released on the current generation consoles' online storefronts Minecraft has its PS4 version on the shelves at the time of writing.
