Minetest, the Minecraft-like voxel game engine (and an uncomplicated game that comes with it) comes with a new release out with Minetest 5.4.0 and it's worth trying again.
As we discussed in the release Candidate stage, one of the big features for users in this release is that it's much simpler modding with both small mod packs and entire games. Minetest had a way to browse and download all mods directly within the game for a while but now it can also download all of the dependencies mods need - making it vastly simpler to download what you want , and then into the game. Strongcraft.org It's no longer a matter of downloading one mod, and then searching for all the individual bits it needs.
A few improvements were also made to the built-in game "Minetest Game". Although it's a basic game it can be used to showcase the engine and to include mods. Minetest 5.4.0 now comes with a crafting guide and five additional wood variations, environmental sounds for active furnaces and lava, along with numerous bug fixes and translations. It continues to build on the gradual and steady progress into something a bit bigger out of the box.
Other options include the ability to alter the cross-hair whenever you point at objects freely binding mouse buttons, name tags for players now have transparent backgrounds, a caverns choice to create flat maps and the 'place' and 'fig keys are easily set up. There are a variety of bugs fixed, including the inability for players not to be able to access the inventories of others.

It's great to see this open-source engine and game thriving. According to the official server list, it looks like a lot of players regularly play games using Minetest with hundreds of players online when this article is live. Awesome!
