Markus "Notch" Persson is mostly known as the creator behind Minecraft, but he's quickly developing a reputation for eccentric games that include everything from speed typing to existential drama. If you're in doubt, you just have to look at his latest title, Cliffhorse. It's as absurd as the title suggests -- you play an animal that hurls a massive ball around the cliffs, and there's nothing more to it than that. The main point isn't the slender design, which took only two hours to develop. Persson describes the game for Windows only as a smackdown at developers who misuse early access programs by charging money for "minimum effort" releases, where most of the content theoretically comes later. He is aware of the irony, considering that he bought Minecraft long before it was completed.
If the absurdity of the project were not obvious, Notch will only accept voluntary Dogecoin donations as payment. Pirateportal Cliffhorse can be downloaded completely free of charge, if you wish. It's a good thing that there's no profit model as there are no guarantees of future updates. Persson's parody might not be enough to inspire you to pay him in virtual currency. However, the launch could be beneficial if it convinces some developers to do some more effort before asking gamers to pay.
