Epic Games founder and CEO Tim Sweeney says that Epic Games will not limit the distribution or sale of games featuring NFTs. Sweeney's comments follow an announcement by Minecraft developer Mojang, which outlined the company's position to not allow blockchain technology or NFTs in Minecraft.
After Mojang's announcement, a fan contacted Sweeney on Twitter to inquire about whether Epic Games would take a similar stance, but Sweeney replied in a negative manner.
"Developers should be able to choose how they build their games, and you are free to choose whether or not to play them," he says. minecraft servers list "I believe that stores and operating system makers should not impose their ideas on other people. We shouldn't.
Sweeney's remarks were addressed by a different user who wanted to know what is the difference between this and Epic Games their policy on discriminatory and sexist content. Sweeney explained that the distinction is due to "editorial and brand judgments," and believes that Epic decides "to draw the line between acceptable mainstream norms."
A few users of the PC gaming subreddit have expressed their displeasure with Sweeney's stance. This is despite the fact that Epic CEO John McDonnell has been vocal about NFTs in the past. In September 2021, Sweeney publicly posted a version of an email in a tweet reply which reads "We do not want to engage in NFTs since the whole field is currently caught up in a complex mixture of scams, intriguing foundations for decentralised technology, and frauds."
Sweeney now says that he believes Epic Game store developers should have the option to pursue these integrations, but he is not clear about. In a tweet that followed, Sweeney said that cryptography is a complicated field.
