Xbox has joined forces with preservation society National Trust (opens in new tab) as well as a group of British creatives to create an Minecraft model of Corfe Castle. The intricate, impressive build was sponsored by Xbox UK as part of the National Trust's festival of archaeology and encouraged people to build "their own version of the castle using the foundations."
To accomplish this the first build was created by a YouTube video maker named Grian who's work is featured in the video above and on YouTube. (opens in a new tab) Utilizing historical photographs and consulting with an expert, and then using Minecraft build skills with a bit of artistic license, Grian creates a build that highlights the most interesting features of Corfe Castle, like its historical octagonal tower and miniature palace, or "Gloriette." JUST SAY YES Which, as I understand, is kind of like an opulent medieval version of the Victorian folly.
"Grian has done a brilliant job of restoring Corfe Castle to its former glory. He not only managed to create an exact recreation of the different styles that were used in the castle grounds, but he also incorporated it into his own ideas. Martin Papworth, an archaeologist working for the National Trust, said that we are eager to see more inspiring designs by more young minds."
