If 120 frames-per second on the display of your gaming laptop is twice as speedy as 60 frames per second so surely eight times as many frames is eight-times as good. That's the thinking behind the most recent super high refresh rate panels that are available on Alienware gaming laptops. Jason's blog The Dell subsidiary is now selling its M17 R5 17-inch laptops, as well as x17R2 17" laptops sporting brand new panels. It's said to be the fastest in the market.
The panels are only able to display 1080p resolution at that incredible refresh rate, but it's probably the best option. After all, you'll need to run games that output nearly 500 frames-per-second in order to see the benefits. Turn off ray-tracing and settle for Minecraft-grade textures, I suppose. The new panel has a 3ms response time and is compatible with NVIDIA GSync and AMD FreeSync, depending on your GPU configuration. The upgrade is $300 more than the base screen , which is the 165Hz rate, which is 95 cents per hertz.
I've seen screens with 120hz as compared to 240hz screens in trade shows and they were sufficient to convince me that even ultra-fast gamers could benefit from these screens. But what happens if you double the speed? It's not going to improve the performance of games, which I doubt, even for eSports pros with Special Eyes. Gaming equipment is known for its extravagant excesses.
