The Minecraft RTS Spinoff is Inventing new Enemies, Too

Like Minecraft Dungeons, Legends is creating new mobs for Minecraft.

Magnus Nedfors, Minecraft Legends director of creative, and Dennis Ries, executive producer were present at the Xbox booth livestream this week to discuss some information about Legends. They also shared information on new mobs that are both friend and foe. As with its past games that have been experimenting with genres, Mojang and Blackbird Interactive's upcoming RTS spinoff is set to make its own mark in the Minecraft world. Dungeons stepped out of the boundaries of Minecraft mythology to create mobs that suit its action RPG world and Legends is doing the same.



As we saw in its initial reveal trailer that the main villains of Minecraft Legends are the familiar Nether denizens which are the Piglins. While we're familiar with Piglins and Hoglins in Vanilla Minecraft, Legends is adding a "Pigmadillo," which crouches down into a cube and, despite what you'd assume from the physics of a cube, offensively rolls towards what it's aiming at. Ries also points out that there are "Bruisers", which have two razor blades. Bit horror-esque, innit? The two new mobs make an appearance in the new cinematic trailer that Mojang showcased.



On the side of friendship there are two kinds of golem that are likely to join your army There is the Cobblestone Golem, who is said to be great at destroying enemy structures, and also what sounds like Ries calls a "Plank Golem" which is a ranged unit. They also refer to something called speed wheat and a special type of mushroom designed to jump high. You can use it to travel around the world and unlock new areas in Legends.

Minecraft Dungeons also introduced new mobs such as the Iceologers or Mountaineers. The Minecraft Live 2020 fan vote to choose which mob to add to Vanilla Minecraft to Vanilla Minecraft included the Iceologers. They were defeated by Glow Squid, but I'd like to see one of these Legends baddies have the same chance to achieve Vanilla Mine fame.



And in case you missed it, there is definitely badgers at the start of the trailer, too. Project Badger was the codename of Minecraft Legends before it was revealed. This may just be a nod to. It might even get official mob status.
