In Gatsby page development, when you go to an unexistent page it will display an image similar to the one below.
To see a custom page 404 like one that was created in src/pages/404.js click the Preview custom page 404 page button. Entering the /404 route will accomplish the same thing.
In production, however, the 404 page doesn't appear to be handled by itself, unless you use a dedicated hosting service for Gatsby pages. This is due to the fact that Gatsby's server for development is no longer in use. The production bundle is an assortment of static files. Utilizing a web server (like nginx) to serve the production page requires you to configure the error pages on your own.
Disclaimer: The following nginx configuration could be used in production but it is very basic.
Let's say your blog is hosted on the personalblog.com domain and it is served from the /var/www/blog directory on port 80.
If you attempt to enter a path that isn't present on your production Gatsby site, nginx will display its default page with 404 errors.
In the event of a 404 error the nginx redirects to the /404 route , by adding the error_page404/404 in the line. minecraft Your customized Gatsby page will be displayed.
