For many, the main drawback of Minecraft's Pocket and Windows 10 Editions has been the absence of community content. What's the point of playing Minecraft on your phone if you cannot play with that awesome new texture pack you spotted on your computer? You're about to have that option. Mojang and Microsoft have launched the Marketplace that lets Pocket and Windows 10 gamers to download content from community creators. This includes skins, textures and entire worlds. You don't buy any paid content directly; instead, you purchase "Minecraft Coins" that allow you to snap up the add-ons you'd like. The idea is to allow producers to set "flexible prices," although it also helps mask the value of the content you're purchasing. It's not a good idea to give your children unrestricted access, in other words.
The Marketplace only permits creators with registered businesses, which means it's not going to allow your project that's just for fun. However, those that do join receive a 70 percent share of the revenue similar to typical mobile app stores. Although they might not be able to make as much sales directly, a business that is successful still makes lots of money.
Access to the Marketplace will be limited initially. The beta version of the Marketplace will be available to the public by mid-April. There will be no creator content, as that will have to wait until the official launch in spring. This will still be able to bridge the gap between your Minecraft experience on mobile devices and those on PCs.
