Sorry, "Fortnite" fans - "Minecraft" continues to dominate the market, just as it has for years. The game has now more than 112 million players every month, "Minecraft" studio head Helen Chiang told Business Insider in a phone interview this week. Chiang claimed that "Minecraft has been growing steadily over the past five years."
"Minecraft" is an exceptional case of a game that has "long legs". It continues to sell for many years in a hit-driven industry, where sales charts often appear like a hockey stick.

For over 10 years, the wildly loved game "Minecraft" has been a cultural juggernaut.
In spite of other big games like "Fortnite", "Roblox" and "Roblox," "Minecraft" is still dominating.
As as of this week, the game now has more than 112 million players each month.
This is an increase of more than 20 million players since the announcement in October 2018 by Microsoft. This is an enormous leap considering that the game has been around for over 10 years. This includes players on all game consoles as well as mobile devices, computers, and the educational version.
Notably, "Minecraft" isn't free on the many platforms it's available on.
The game was purchased by the tens of million of "Minecraft" players who added the game to their collection over the last year, regardless of whether it was directly available in the store, or as part of Microsoft's Game Pass subscription service, or downloaded.
Read more about the reasons why there won't be a 'Minecraft 2,' according to the people responsible for "Minecraft."
Early success has lasted
Since its inception the game has been a huge success. "Minecraft" was an in-progress game developed by Markus "NotchPersson. Persson. It was a simple game with a limited graphic and controls. It was only available on PC. It was susceptible to breaking because it was an incomplete game created by a single person.
But, millions of players still played and bought the first version of "Minecraft".
The tech world was stunned and puzzled when Microsoft bought the game in 2014 for $2.5 Billion.
MINECRAFT
However, that initial success has been under the watch of Microsoft for the past five years.
"What we've observed is that it's a game that players keep coming back to," Helen Chiang, "Minecraft" studio head spoke to Business Insider in a phone interview this week. "It might not always be the game that's in the forefront as there are plenty of great games that continue to release however it's one they love to return to."
Why is 'Minecraft" such a hit?
Hence the reason why "Minecraft so well-known?"
We're talking about a game that appears like this:
Imagine "Minecraft" as a virtual LEGO.
It is an application that lets you to put pieces together to create something, sometimes amazing things, out of nothing. "Minecraft" provides an endless array of building blocks as well as an empty slate. You can make anything you want with the tools available. The tools are blessedly user-friendly, as are the systems to use them.
