Technoblade, a YouTube personality who built a following of millions with his humorous commentary on videos of himself playing Minecraft has passed away, his father announced in a video that was posted on his son's YouTube account.
More than 11 million subscribers made a habit of watching screen recordings of Technoblade's Minecraft gameplay while he offered commentary on the game off camera. While he tended to focus on the action in the game, in a few videos, he described everyday life events such as visiting the D.M.V. or as devastating as being diagnosed with cancer.
Technoblade's YouTube channel released an original video titled "so long geeks" on Thursday. It was viewed more 26 million times since Friday afternoon. The video is an exception to the usual aesthetic of the channel, which features colorful, pixelated bricks. Instead an individual who claims to identify himself as Technoblade's father is shown sitting in a chair against a stark white backdrop, with an adorable white dog on his lap.
His father, who doesn't give his name reads a message from his child that begins: "Hello everyone. Technoblade here. If you are watching this, I am dead."
The message goes on to reveal Technoblade's first name, Alex, which he did not use on the internet. A few photos of Alex and his loved ones are also featured in the video. He hasn't often shown himself in his YouTube videos, preferring to portray himself as his character: a crowned sword-wielding pig.
Alex's letter states "If I had another hundred years in my years, I believe I'd choose Technoblade each time." "Those were the most joyful years of my life."
His father, who remains emotional throughout the video says that the two of them had been discussing for months the idea to make a final film. Instead, Alex decided to write the letter and died about eight hours after finishing it, his father says.
"I do not think he was able to say everything he wanted say, but I believe that he understood the major points," he says.
The video ends with a written statement that is attributed to Alex's mother who's name isn't mentioned. She said that Alex was not famous and self-deprecating in spite of his channel growing in popularity.
"From Technoblade's first days on the web, he was constantly figuring out ways to delight and reward his followers, giving away online prizes as well as encouraging good sportsmanship, and, most of all, sharing his Minecraft adventures to entertain and laugh," she wrote.
Alex's family was unable to reach the player on Friday. Hypixel, a gaming company said that the family asked that no comments be made to them. Don Pireso, the company administrator, said in a direct tweet that "The video they posted contains all the information they are confident about sharing."
Alex first acknowledged the diagnosis of cancer in a video uploaded to his channel in August. The video, which showed Alex's voice off camera, displayed the game. He maintained his self-deprecating, humorous style, refusing to make any attempt to be too serious. Audioshop.co He also revealed his age at the time, 22.
In the video, he explained how the first round of chemotherapy made him so exhausted that he couldn't even sit up to make a virtual appointment with a doctor. Then the comedian joked: "Sitting in a chair, am I Superman?"
He said he was diagnosed after experiencing severe discomfort in his arm. Although initially, he dismissed the pain as a result of repetitive stress from playing video games, he stated that his shoulder was swelling after a few days of rest.
He also urged people to get the vaccine Covid-19. He said that his cancer treatments had weakened the immune system, which made him more vulnerable to serious illness from the coronavirus.
"I'm going to go ahead and speak on behalf of all cancer patients when I say it is incredibly annoying when the hospitals are overwhelmed by patients dying from preventable diseases," he said in the video. "I'm just saying that we're entitled to the beds in hospitals."
On social media, Technoblade's friends and followers have praised him for his wit and for being a role model to Minecraft players.
Minecraft is distinct from other games in that the owner, Microsoft does not have control over the servers where players can meet online. Instead, players can build their own servers and join others to create a huge network of worlds within the Minecraft universe.
Hypixel who manages a network of Minecraft servers, announced that it had created a digital book where users could write messages, and the book would be printed and sent to Technoblade's family and friends. Hypixel's tribute included an illustration of Technoblade's pig avatar as statue. "In many ways the success of a lot of us is tied to Technoblade's success. Technoblade," the company said.
