Avanos Medical called off Cortrak* 2 EAS as a result of patient deaths and injuries caused by tube displacements.
The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has identified the recall of Avanos Medical's Cortrak*2 Enteral Access System (EAS) as an I Class recall.
Cortrak 2 eternal access system The most severe of the three types is a Class I remember.
Avanos Medical pulled Cortrak* 2 EAS out of service due to patient deaths and injuries due to misplacements of nasogastric tubes.

However, the wrong positioning of nasogastric or nasal tubes can damage a patient's vocal cords or trachea, lungs, or vocal cords, resulting in serious injuries or even death.
The company has recalled 629 devices distributed in the US between January 2016 to January 2022.
According to the company's recall notice it was reported that there were sixty injuries and 23 deaths in 2015 as a result of the incorrect placement of nasogastric feeding tubes during use of the Cortrak* 2 EAS.
Avanos Medical is updating the labels on the device following the recall. This will include updated instructions for use and intended usages of the Cortrak*2 EAS.

Avanos Medical has its headquarters in Alpharetta Georgia. The company has more than 90 markets for its recognized brands.
The company came to an agreement with OrthogenRx to purchase the company in a $160 million deal. Avanos Medical completed the acquisition on January 20.
