Minecraft Hackers Post Hundreds of Personal Login Details Online

Microsoft was left in a state of dismay after its Xbox One service was hacked by hackers during Christmas. Now it is facing a similar problem.

The reports on a German website claim that a list of 1,800 Microsoft-owned Minecraft's usernames and passwords have been released online.

If they have access to these information A security expert warns that criminals could break into accounts, change settings and purchase virtual goods.

The hack was revealed by Heise Online, and many of the verified accounts (selection pictured) are believed to belong to German gamers. It is not clear how hackers got their hands on the credentials, however security analyst Graham Cluely wrote : 'Possibilities range from malware, phishing attacks, or even a security breach'

The hack was first reported by Heise Online, and many of the verified accounts are believed to be belonging to German gamers.

It is not known how the hackers gained access on the credentials, however security analyst Graham Cluely wrote on the Hot for Security blog: There are a variety of possibilities, from simple phishing attacks, keylogging malware stealing players' details when they log into the game, or a security breach at Minecraft itself.

"Let's hope that this isn't our last time, as the game has more than 100 million registered players.

MailOnline was informed by a Microsoft spokesperson that they could confirm that there was no Mojang.net services were compromised.

"Normal industrial procedures" were created to deal with situations such as this. They were used to reset passwords for a limited number of affected accounts.

Minecraft was first created in 2009.

A character is placed into the "virtually infinite" game world at the beginning of the game.

The game was initially made for the PC but there are now Xbox 360 and mobile versions available.'

The hack is small in comparison to the number of registered users.

However, Mr. Cluely said that unauthorised users could use the unsecured email addresses or passwords to access other gamesworlds, and download the full game which is typically priced at EUR19.95 Euros ($26.95 (or PS17.95).

A cybercriminal may also gain access to an individual's email address in order to hack other accounts and send malware or even send spam.

Cluely also said that there's no assurance that the hacker who is responsible for this list doesn't possess more money.

Microsoft purchased Mojang in September in a deal that was said to be worth $2.5 billion (PS1.5 billion).

The game is available on PCs and Androids, iOS, Windows Phone and Windows Phone. It also works on consoles such as the Xbox One or PlayStation 4.

However there is a Microsoft spokesperson confirmed to MailOnline that there was no evidence that the Mojang.net service was compromised. Although the amount of information revealed is not that big in comparison to the game's 100,000,000 users, Mr Cluely declared that there's no assurance that the hacker who published the list of details didn't have more information in their back pocket'.

At the start of the game, the player is put into a 'virtually infinite game world.' They can then walk around various terrains, including caves, mountains, and forests.

More than 16,645,000 players have bought the game, to date, and it is an online phenomenon.

YouTube channels are available that provide tutorials on how to play the game. In some cases, the owners can even quit their jobs by advertising.
