Life is better in 2022 for gamers running Apple macOS and Linux however Windows remains the top PC operating system for gaming. Microsoft is well aware of this fact, and as a result it has integrated a lot of gaming features into Windows in the past. As time passes, with Windows 11 and Windows 11, there are more gaming features. Here are the Windows 11 features that will make your next frag session even more enjoyable.
Game Bar
Windows 11 Game Bar
Windows 11 comes preloaded with the Game Bar. This allows users to quickly access useful tools with one keystroke. The Game Bar can be opened anytime even if you're not playing an online game. It can be opened by pressing Win +G. If your Xbox controller is connected to your computer, press the Xbox button.
The Game Bar is an overlay with widgets that let you capture video footage of your gaming, control audio output and monitor PC performance and more. You can sign in to your social media accounts via the settings and upload and share your photos and videos immediately.
DirectStorage
If you have a powerful computer, Microsoft has devised a way your hardware can communicate more efficiently, leading to better performance in games. DirectStorage is an application that doesn't need you to do anything more than turn it on. You do, however, have to meet certain specifications for your hardware that may necessitate an upgrade.
DirectStorage for Windows 11
DirectStorage lets your computer communicate directly with the storage of your GPU. This eliminates the need for CPU decompression, which is a major bottleneck in performance. Games with DirectX 12 can take advantage of DirectStorage as long as your PC is equipped with an NVMe SSD and a compatible GPU. Any AMD RDNA2 card or Nvidia RTX 2000-series or later will work.
DirectStorage is handled by your system if aren't certain. Click on the settings menu and then select Gaming Features. This page will tell you whether your gaming software, GPU, and SSD are compatible.
Auto HDR
Windows 11 Auto HDR.
Games that include HDR (high dynamic range) can create more vivid, realistic colors. It's only been common for developers to add HDR support in the past few years. Windows 11 has an Auto HDR feature that allows you to boost the colors of games that don't support HDR.
The catch is that you'll need a monitor capable of HDR and HDR-capable monitors are usually more expensive than regular panels. Windows can algorithmically enhance non HDR games provided you have a compatible monitor. This occurs at the OS level, meaning that developers don't need to do anything. Go to Settings > System > HDR. If your monitor supports, you'll be able to flip on Auto HDR. This will also add an HDR intensity slider to the Game Bar.
Game Mode
There's nothing worse than watching your game suddenly lose frames due to a background task. A game can be rendered unplayable if it's struggling to maintain frame rates. Windows 11 has a way to stop that and it's known as Game Mode.
Windows 11 Game Mode.
This feature is available under Settings > Gaming > Game Mode. GAMES It's a single switch, and there's no hardware requirements. It is able to be turned on and Windows will not attempt to download or install updates in the background. Applications that make use of the Windows notification system will not interfere with your game. Game Mode swings into action automatically when Windows detects you're running an activity.
Game widget store
Windows 11 Game Widget Store
The Game Bar has plenty of functionality when you first open it, but it's also more customizable than you imagine. You will find an inventory of widgets in the menus. This lets you purchase additional overlay items. It's located in the widget list (the far-left button on the main bar). The widget store is located at the bottom.
The majority of the widgets available in this store are free. However there are a few paid overlays and widgets which can connect to desktop applications that are paid. The store's widgets can be used to add floating YouTube videos, add an ethically dubious crosshair to your screen to prevent sniping, and much more. There are also widgets that allow you to control hardware, such as Corsair coolers and EVGA video cards.
Xbox app
Windows 11 Xbox app.

Microsoft's Xbox application is compatible with Windows 11. It's worth exploring even if you don't have an Xbox. It allows you to purchase PC games like Cuphead, Destiny 2, and Minecraft however, it's much more than just a Steam replacement with a smaller catalogue. It also functions as the hub for Microsoft Game Pass on the PC.
Game Pass is a subscription service that makes many games available for free charge. You can install and play games for the duration of Game Pass, and Microsoft has bought publishers such as Bethesda and Activision-Blizzard to ensure that there's plenty to play. Even if your GPU not the best, the Xbox application will allow you to play your most loved games. Game Pass Ultimate, a $15-per-month tier, comes with Cloud Gaming. This renders Xbox games on a remote server and streams them to your PC. The games available here aren't particularly wide, but there's Halo Infinite, Forza Horizon 5, Doom Eternal, and more console hits. So, no matter what method you use to go about getting your gaming fix, Windows 11 should have something to make the experience more enjoyable.
