Hey, here's some good news on NFTs for once! Mojang has released an updated guide to the rules governing NFTs and blockchain.
There are many scams in the world of NFTs, especially when it comes to companies that use "blockchain" when they don't require it. Thankfully, Mojang have listened and issued some rules, and the basic idea is that "integrations of NFTs with Minecraft are not something we would support or allow" they stated.
Their blog post on news provides an introduction to what NFTs actually are and giving a brief overview of the reasons they have rules for server owners as well as creators of content. The goal in brief is to "ensure that Minecraft remains a community in which everyone can access the same content". One of the issues is how NFTs "create models of scarcity and exclusion that conflict with our Guidelines and the nature of Minecraft".
Mojang have made their position explicit about it, declaring that "As as a result, to ensure that Minecraft players have a secure and enjoyable experience, blockchain technology is not permitted to be integrated inside our Minecraft server and client applications, nor can they be used to create NFTs with any game-related content, including worlds, persona items, skins or other mods. ".
This is great, because it should hopefully prevent another Blockverse, which was supposed to be an "on-chain Ethereum NFT that could enable the creation of a unique P2E in Minecraft". Can you guess what happened? They took a lot of money, and then vanished with the money.
However they're not ruled out using blockchain in Minecraft in the event that it can "allow for more secure gaming or other practical and inclusive applications in gaming" however, they're currently no plans to use it as of right now.
