2FA for your Own Minecraft Server

In October I was fortunate to travel across town to GamesBeat 2015, a fantastic conference organized by VentureBeat, considered to be among the top blogs on the web by The New York Times. VentureBeat is a top source of technology innovation news events, research, and perspective, and their GamesBeat conference, which is now in its seventh year is a great example of how they focus them on tech trends in the gaming industry.

We were thrilled when Authy was invited by GamesBeat 2015 to take part in the event. It's not often that business and pleasure blend seamlessly. At Authy we assist online businesses secure their data and safeguard their customers by making it simple to integrate two-factor authentication into their offering. However, we're gamers at heart, and so whenever a gaming platform amps up their level of security we're more likely initiate gameplay.

Gamers Losing Trust?

Thanks to the rise of virtual economies on gaming websites hackers are in high demand for gamers and game developers. Gaming profiles are now selling for thousands of dollars on the black market. However, it's multi-player games and the $11 billion annual revenues they produce, that are the prime targets of cyber criminals. In-game currencies in games for multiplayer such as World of Warcraft Gold, can be easily stolen exchanged, traded, or exchanged for real cash, usually in other countries and without the developers' knowledge. Even if a business successfully restores the stolen assets, or is successful in bringing the culprits accountable, this type of infraction is difficult to overcome. The gamer loses confidence in the game. And even after release of a safer version or new title, regaining that trust isn't always simple.

But it isn't necessary to be that way.

As gamers become frustrated by the constant data breaches and data breaches, they demand more accountable management of their personal data from companies. We all recognize that passwords aren't enough protection anymore-we also recognize that using a secondary factor to confirm the identity of a user can protect your service and your players from data loss, fraud and malicious attacks. Two-factor authentication is a great choice, particularly for online games with multiple players that allow players to accumulate and trade.

Security with Just 10 Lines of Code

It's not difficult to integrate two-factor authentication. This is basically my GamesBeat 2015 presentation. Integrating Authy two-factor authentication is easy, powerful and reliable. Two-factor authentication can be used almost immediately with just 10 lines of code

Verify registration of players and allow access during log-in Secure high-value transactions or game advancements and basically any game activity you must protect

Yes. Authy for Minecraft.

To illustrate this idea, I created two-factor authentication in Minecraft to show you how to use:

- SMS or text-to voice when you log in using Authy OneCode One Time Passcode generation as player verification with Authy SoftToken. For the best, least intrusive user experience, push notification using Authy One Touch which means that all a player has to do is swipe their smartphone's screen to gain access to in-game purchases, or any other actions that require added security.

Hackers are no longer just after end-user data. They're after entire player communities and some are looking to take down entire systems. Two-factor authentication makes gaming developers more secure. Minecraft names Developer account information will also be safer. Brands will instill trust and confidence in its player base.

Integrations between applications can be cumbersome for developers. We put a lot of effort into making Authy easy for developers. The Authy REST API handles the tedious details like key management as well as secure data structuring. It also comes with two easy end-points as well as pre-built libraries to improve security to your login flow using the language you prefer: PHP, Ruby, Python, Java, NodeJS and more.

If You're a Developer:
