The Kerem Tunnel is the first bicycle tunnel to be constructed in Israel and was officially opened in the year 2000 as part the Jerusalem Ring Path, a 42-kilometer cycle route that circles the capital.

It connects Nahal Refaim to Emek Motza. It is located in southern Israel within Refaim Park. Ein Laban is the closest. Nahal Ein Kerem is the northern entrance.

The 2.1-kilometers-long tunnel was officially opened in a ceremony held on Thursday that was attended by Jerusalem and Heritage Minister Ze'evElkin, Mayor Moshe Lion, Gihon water company chairman Avi Baleshnikov, and a slew of cyclists.

Elkin's Ministry Tourism Ministry, Jerusalem Municipality and Gihon Corporation contributed approximately NIS 25 million for the project. The work was carried out by the Jerusalem Development Authority.

To make the tunnel accessible to the public year-round the work includes road construction and installing blowers.


The Kerem Tunnel gives you access to a variety of recreation sites, including Ein Kerem Neighborhood, the Biblical Zoo and Aquarium as well as historic natural springs Ein Haniyeh or Ein Laban.
