These Properties are PrivateServerId as well as PrivateServerOwnerId

Private servers (formerly and commonly known as VIP servers[1]) are servers that are private per-game which are owned by a single person. As of June 12 2020, developers are able to choose to make their servers available for free (players may only own one private server per game). 2 Prior to the removal of leaderboards they may appear as clans in the Clans section while viewing game leaderboards.

Setting up private servers



If the developer has enabled private servers at their server players can then create private servers at their location. The players will be charged the amount of Robux and then select a name, users allowed and can access an account on the private server, and if friends are allowed to join. The server tab will show the server. If the server creator shuts down the server or the developer disables private servers, then the server ceases to be playable.

There are two properties in the DataModel that can be used to detect the presence of a private server. These properties are PrivateServerId and PrivateServerOwnerId. More information here.



Issues



Bugs



- You will be kicked if you try to join a friend that is on a private server you don't have access. This has created confusion among the players trying to join and not knowing the reason why they aren't able to join their friend's game. When you close the server, players may not be instantly kicked.


Other



- Users who don't use a web browser to play Roblox are not able to join private servers through invite links. Instead, they must rely on the server owner inviting them via the settings for the configuration.


Use of private servers



Private servers are purchased and used for a multitude of reasons. The reasons for this could include:



- Regular players may use private servers for farming an in-game currency or item without the hassle of having to deal with other players, in a safe, isolated environment. It is increasingly common for RPG games and prison games to have players purchase private servers for simple farming. They could also use private servers to access content that the game's developer offers only to private servers. It can also be used to transfer funds following the delay in payouts by the group. YouTubers often have private servers to make recording simpler and stop players from streamsnapping them. They may also open private servers to serve as a public invite link to allow fans of the YouTuber can join and play with other players. - Developers may own private servers in their own game to make testing new features of their game more convenient. Exploiters could also use private servers to automate farming in games, with no fear of having friends report them for exploiting. - Private servers are also often purchased for privacy reasons. Some players might prefer to play with friends, and not random players.
