Daniel talked about the PTR's decision to remove the Essence of Immortals and the evolving content of Quel'Danas some time ago which made me think a bit more about progression.
Evidently, the removal of that bit of the Sunwell Plateau isn't particularly devastating or crippling. The inclusion of it could be detrimental for the less populated raiding-light servers. This could hinder guilds who raid from enjoying content because they picked the wrong server. I can understand why the server was removed but my mind, being the odd creature it is used this to reorient itself to similar topics, and my brain cells are arguing about it amongst themselves.
How important is the progress of a server? World progression is pretty universally recognized by the WoW community. Most people know the world's first, second, and third. What does it matter at the server level? Is it possible to identify the first person who downed Illidan on your server? Grnonline Second? Fifth? What about Kael'thas? Do you remember who killed Kil'jaeden first?
My home server keeps all this information in a sticky progression thread. We have charts for the levels 4 5, 6, and 7 content. One chart will be available for the Sunwell. While this isn't crucial information, it's fun to see who's who in the progression process, and to watch raids work their way up from the ground level. As someone already hip-deep in Black Temple, it is extremely exciting for me when it's time to add another guild to the Tier 6 progression list. I love experiencing high end content, and I'm glad when someone else has the chance to experience it, too.
Hm. Before I go off on too many tangents about this Do any of you play on servers that do the same? Can you identify the first guild that helped bring down Illidan on your server?
