Counter-Strike: Global Offensive - Operation Riptide Just Dropped

It turns out Valve was indeed teasing something significant for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive earlier this week. Today, the studio launched the FPS game's next big operation, Riptide, which brings the game with a variety of new modes, maps, gameplay changes, challenges, and more.



It is available for download by purchasing the new operation pass on Steam, Operation Riptide introduces some significant updates to how you can dive into the shooter. One of these is the new private matchmaking queues feature. This allows you to create an individual queue code to share with your friends - or people all in the same Steam group to set up an exclusive Premier match on Valve's servers. The new operation overview explains that you can pair up teams, create teams, or wait for the matchmaker to determine the best option for you.



Riptide also gives players the option to choose from two match lengths on official (competitive) servers for CSGO short (MR16) and long (MR30). Or you can choose to go with no preference when you're set on any of these match lengths. Team Deathmatch now has more options. You can pick between "Classic Deathmatch", Team Deathmatch (first team with 100 kills wins), or Deathmatch that is free for all players. All players are enemies.



The Demolition and Arms Race game modes have been updated with a more streamlined progression of weapons in each, plus some other tweaks you can read about in the overview.



Similar to previous CS:GO operations, there will be rewards to be snatched up during the time that Riptide is in play. You can earn stars through weekly tasks, which allows you to purchase new agents, including the "Guerrilla Warfare Terrorists", CT SEAL team "Frogmen" and the French Gendarmerie".



The fan-created map County, which is almost Far Cry 5-like was added to CS:GO official Matchmaking for the Danger Zone mode. Basalt and Insertion II now have a place in the Competitive, Casual and Deathmatch modes' pools of competitive matchmaking, while Ravine Extraction, Ravine, and Wingman have been added to Wingman’s official matchmaking. Grind, Mocha, Pitstop, Calavera, and Frostbite are now out of the game. You can also find some modifications to Dust 2, Inferno and Ancient in Valve’s patch notes.



Riptide's gameplay changes include the ability to now drop grenades as regular weapons, along with a body damage buff for the M4A1-S as well as an nerf for the Deagle. Dual Elites are now less expensive and vision after death has been dropped to 2.0s from 3.0s (0.5s down from 1.0s for vision after headshot).
